Morris Moses Foundation (MMF) was established in 2009 as a charitable organization based in Nairobi, with a vision to realize a Kenya where all people receive quality health care regardless of financial capacity of an individual-A consumer lobby that advocate COMPASSIONATE ,QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL.
The foundation was inspired by an unfortunate experience by the family and friends of the late Morris Moses Kiromo. He was a 29-year-old Kenyan at the prime of his life when he unexpectedly fell ill in mid-2009. What began as a flu infection rapidly turned serious when the young man fell into a coma and was hospitalized at a major referral hospital in Nairobi. Morris remained in this state for several weeks in what turned out to be one of the most trying times for his family. They were especially devastated by the deplorable health care provided to Morris and many others at the publicly funded hospital. Sadly, Morris never woke up from the coma and he passed away in the early hours of 6th August 2009.
Just about five months earlier, Alice the founder and CEO of this foundation had lost her husband, Isaac Mwongera at the casualty of the same hospital 6 hrs after arrival while awaiting slow-coming treatment.
Galvanized by this sudden loss of their two friends and relatives, a small group of ordinary Kenyans came together soon after the funeral and committed to setting up this foundation in their memory and the memory of so many other Kenyans who had died under similar circumstances. In so doing, they deeply recognized that Morris` and Isaac`s tragic stories were a replica of similar tales in public hospitals across Kenya and they vowed they would not become other health statistic. Hence the foundation’s main focus is to work for the realization of quality health care in all publicly-funded hospitals, delivered in a caring and compassionate manner and accessible to all Kenyans without consideration to income levels.
